Hackers Compromise Up To 1.8 Million Square Enix Accounts

The good news? Square Enix Members users' login and accredit card info is probably safe. The bad news? Their names, call numbers, and email addresses may have been stolen by hackers.

Two years agone, Square Enix revealed that it had been victim of what may deliver been a fairly substantial data theft. The company publicly admitted that it had detected some "unofficial access" on its Square Enix Members servers and subsequently shut everything down spell it conducted an internal investigation. Exactly what information, if any, had been taken wasn't clear. Now the impairment has been assessed and it's not pretty: According to a company voice, the entropy for dormy to 1.8 one thousand thousand accounts may have been purloined.

Exactly how numerous servers were breached hasn't been obstinate. That said, IT was determined that the hackers hit servers in Japanese Archipelago and North America (which hold over data of extraordinary million and 800,000 customers, respectively). Direct Enix, next these discoveries, has updated the message on its Square Enix Members internet site:

While members of the serving can't be happy that some of their individual information is possibly in the hands of hackers, the situation could be much worse. Since, at the moment, Hearty Enix can't fully confirm operating room deny what (if any) info the hackers were able to make off with, users are still left wondering just how upset they should be just about their online security. Hopefully Square Enix can confirm inside the next few days that nothing was actually extracted from the servers.

This is the second time that Square Enix has been hacked this class: Book binding in May, hackers skint into Eidosmontreal.com and stole respective hundred résumés and thousands of netmail addresses on file.
